Kobe Bryant has skipped the Los Angeles Lakers’ practice to rest his aching right foot.
The Lakers announced Monday that Bryant’s foot is sore and bruised.

Bryant was injured during the third quarter of the Lakers’ 99-92 preseason loss to Sacramento on Sunday night. He stayed in the game and scored 21 points.
Bryant has fought a handful of nagging injuries in training camp this month.

A Brazilian bricklayer reportedly killed in a car crashshocked his mourning family by showing up alive at his funeral. Relatives of Ademir Jorge Goncalves, 59, had identified him as the victim of a Sunday nightcar crash in Parana state in southern Brazil, police said.
As is customary in Brazil, the funeral was held the following day, which happened to be the holiday of Finados, when Brazilians visit cemeteries to honor the dead.

What family members didn’t know was that Goncalves had spent the night at a truck stop talking with friends over drinks of a sugarcane liquor known as cachaca, his niece Rosa Sampaio told the O Globo newspaper. He did not get word about his own funeral until it was already happening Monday morning.
A police spokesman in the town of Santo Antonio da Platina said Goncalves rushed to the funeral to let family members know he was not dead.
“The corpse was badly disfigured, but dressed in similar clothing,” said thepolice spokesman, who talked on condition of anonymity as he wasn’t authorized to discuss the case. “People are afraid to look for very long when they identify bodies, and I think that is what happened in this case.”
Sampaio told O Globo that some family members were not sure the body was Goncalves.
“My two uncles and I had doubts about the identification,” she told O Globo. “But an aunt and four of his friends identified the body, so what were we to do? We went ahead with the funeral.”
The police spokesman confirmed there were doubts: “His mom looked at the body in the casket and thought something was strange. She looked and looked and couldn’t believe it was her son,” Sampaio said. “Before long, the walking dead appeared at the funeral. It was a relief.”
The body was correctly identified later Monday, the police spokesman said, and has already been buried in another state. He declined to release the actual victim’s name.

Betty Jo Blackburn, 78, of Fletcher Street, Wilkesboro, died Saturday June 22, 2012 after an extended illness.
Ms. Blackburn was born Dec. 26, 1933 in Wilkes County to Fred and Ethel Maynard Blackburn. She was retired from R.J. Reynolds, and was a member of Union Hill Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Charlie A. Blackburn and Millard C. Blackburn.

Survivors include two brothers, Howard Wilborn Blackburn Sr. of North Wilkesboro and Sherley John Blackburn of Maiden.
Graveside services were held Sunday at Rock Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Tommy Mathis officiating.

Longoria confirmed she was casually dating the New York Jets quarterback in mid-September, but it seems conflicting lifestyles have caused a rift.

Police Name Suspect in $1.6M Casino Chip Heist, Las Vegas police are looking for a 31-year-old Southern California man they believe sneaked into a restricted area of the Venetian resort earlier this month and stole $1.6 million in high-denomination casino chips.

Akingide Cole of Palmdale, Calif., is wanted on suspicion of burglary, grand larceny, and unlawful possession of burglary tools stemming from the heist at the Las Vegas Strip resort, police said Monday.

But it's unlikely the robber will be able to redeem the high-value chips, which are usually circulated among a small group of high-rollers.

"In any of these thefts of chips, it's very difficult to cash these in," said Nevada Gaming Control Board Chief of Enforcement Jerry Markling. "Licensees generally know who their customers are."

Because of internal protocol that would flag the biggest chips, the redeemable value of the stash is estimated at $10,000, according to Ron Reese, spokesman for The Venetian's parent company, Las Vegas Sands.

Tony Scott autopsy, An autopsy report on the death of "Top Gun" director Tony Scott lists his death as a suicide and says the cause was multiple blunt force injuries suffered from jumping off a bridge into Los Angeles Harbor.

The report released Monday by the Los Angeles County coroner says Scott also drowned, and had in his system therapeutic levels of the anti-depressant Remeron and the sleep aid Lunesta.

No surprises appeared in the autopsy results on Scott, who leapt from the Vincent Thomas Bridge on August 19 and whose death was presumed a probable suicide from the outset.

The coroner's office said previously that Scott left notes behind in his car including messages to friends and loved ones, but none gave a reason why he would kill himself.

Pussy Riot to prison colony,The two members of the band Pussy Riot who remain behind bars lost an appeal to serve out the length of their two-year sentences at a Moscow pre-trial detention center on Monday. The alternative, unfortunately, is not a good one. Pending any last ditch appeals, Maria Alekhina and Nadezhda Tolokonnikova will spend the next two years of their lives in a dreadful-sounding Russian prison colony, all for a dancing on an altar.

The conditions sound undesirable to say the least. Well, the Associated Press painted a pretty ugly picture of the places, anyways. "In colonies for women, inmates live in barracks with 30 to 40 to a room,"explained the AP ahead of Pussy Riot's appeal. "They begin the day by shuffling outside for compulsory exercises at daybreak, in temperatures as low as minus 30 degrees Celsius in winter. After roll call and a breakfast of gruel, they spend seven to eight hours a day at work, usually hunched over sewing machines working on uniforms and other clothing." If Alekhina or Tolokonnikova do so much as make a sloppy bed or greet guards inappropriately, they're subject to solitary confinement for up to 15 days.

Gruel, manual labor and "compulsory exercises at daybreak," huh? That's not so bad. At least maybe the people will be nice? "Everyone knows the rule: Trust no one, never fear and never forgive," said Svetlana Bakhmina, a lawyer who spent three years in a penal colony. "You are in no-man's land. Nobody will help you. You have to think about everything you say and do to remain a person." The worst case scenario is very bad. In 2009, lawyer Sergei Magnitsky* was reportedly beaten almost to death then denied medical care before he succumbed to his injuries and died in one of these prison colonies.

Trump's Obama announcement, Donald Trump, the real estate mogul, reality TV star and de facto leader of the "birther" movement, says he is planning a "big announcement" about President Barack Obama.

"I have something very, very big concerning the president of the United States," Trump told "Fox & Friends" on Monday during a phone interview. "I will be announcing it sometime probably Wednesday and it's going to be very big."

"Will it change the election?" co-host Gretchen Carlson asked Trump.

"Possibly," Trump replied. "It's very big—bigger than anybody would know."

Trump—who has been live-tweeting during the presidential debates—said he would likely make the announcement on "the Twitter."

The couple said "I do" in front of loved ones in Italy, People announced on Friday.

"It's great to be married, the ceremony was beautiful and it was so special to be surrounded by our family and friends," the couple said in a statement.

Marriage has been a long time coming for the couple, who have been linked since 2007. However, it hasn't always been an easy road, considering the pair split in 2011 before rekindling their romance just a few months later.

In early 2012, news broke that Timberlake, 31, had popped the question to Biel, 30, in Jackson, Wyo., though they never directly confirmed the news.

Biel, who has always been particularly guarded about her relationship with Timberlake, opened up about marriage in a May interview with the French magazine Gala.

67-yard field goal, A 67 yard field goal was made in a football game this Thursday night. In September, San Francisco 49ers field goal kicker David Akers tied an NFL record with a 63-yard field goal. This NFL record for longest made field goal is also shared by Tom Dempsey, Jason Elam, and Sebastian Janikowski. But this record-setting 67 yard field goal was not created by a NFL superstar…it was power-kicked by a Washington high schooler!

This was not a gimmicky throwaway field goal kick, like when the Raiders attempted a 76 yard field goal at the end of the first half. This kick was a game-changer for the Bears against their rival Shadle Park. The 67 yard field goal tied the game and set it into overtime, where the Bears won 62-55.

“I knew we needed it for the tie,” Rehkow told ESPN.com. “I felt confident in my leg strength. I went out there, you get that extra adrenaline going and then I let it rip. Luckily it stayed through the uprights. Once I saw the arms go up, it was just an overwhelming feeling of joy.”

While this 67 yard field goal blasted the NFL field goal record it still did not beat the high school record for longest field goals. Austin Rehkow’s kick was one yard shorter than Dirk Borgognone, who booted 68 yards way back in 1985, as reported by the Seattle Times.

According to CBSSports.com “[a] performance like that figures to put Rehkow on the radar of college coaches. According to reports, he only holds a partial scholarship offer to Eastern Washington and has only received cursory looks from other programs. Given the issues with kickers at the college level in 2012, it’s a good bet that more than a few assistants will stop by and take a longer look at the big-legged kicker.”

Teen says Sandusky chased him in car as he ran away, The 18-year-old who triggered the prosecution of Jerry Sandusky for sexually abusing him and nine other boys told ABC News the former Penn State coach once chased him down with his car as he tried to flee.

Aaron Fisher, previously known as Victim 1, has revealed his identity since testifying against Sandusky at his June trial. Sandusky, 68, was convicted of 45 counts of child sex abuse and sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Fisher was just 10 when he met Sandusky through the former coach's charity for at-risk children, The Second Mile, in 2004. At first, Sandusky seemed like "the all-natural father figure," Fisher told ABC in the "20/20" interview broadcast on Friday night.

But after a year of box seats at Penn State football games and weekend trips with the coach, Fisher said he was being sexually abused in Sandusky's basement, leaving him confused and ashamed.

"Being a kid, you never know what to do. You don't know who you can tell because you don't know who you can trust," he said on ABC.

The attacks continued for years, with Sandusky misusing his position as a volunteer coach to pull the boy out of class. Fisher's attempts to hide or flee were met with a tightened leash, and Sandusky became aggressive.

"He once followed my bus home from school," Fisher said. "I took off running but he drove on the opposite side of the street, onto oncoming traffic to catch up with me. I ran up an alley and he went to my house and parked out front."
